with related agricultural
buildings about 10 metres
to south-east of Acton
House Farmhouse

GV II

Former threshing barn, now cow house, with attached horse engine house,
cartshed with granary above, and pigsties. Late Cl7 with mid to late
C19 additions. Weatherboarded timber frame on coursed limestone rubble
plinth, and uncoursed limestone rubble additions; plain tile roofs,
hipped over horse engine house, and graded slate roof over pigsties.
fill: square panels. 3-framed bays with cartshed and granary to
east, pigsties to south-west, and polygonal-ended horse engine house
projecting from central bay to south. One storey with inserted C19
floor in central bay. Two C19 gabled eaves loft dormers to north with
boarded loft doors. North front: first floor central boarded loft
door, 7 stone steps up to boarded granary door to left; 2 ground
floor windows, boarded door, and two 2-leaf boarded doors. South front:
open fronted cartshed to right with central pier, 3 lean-to pigsties to
left. Left-hand gable end with loft door and one storey lean-to.
Interior: engine house,with double purlin roof and truss with inclined
queen struts. Picturesque grouping particularly with the lower pigsties
mitred around the south-west corner.
