Lower Lye Farmhouse

Farmhouse, now disused. Mid-and late C17 with later additions and alterations.
Limewashed uncoursed limestone rubble and flat slabs; corrugated iron roof.
Original single-cell plan of end baffle-entry type, extended to left in late
C17 to form present 3-room plan. One storey and attic. Three C19 casements
to ground floor and 2 raking eaves dormers, right larger with leaded lights.
Boarded door to left and also to right in separate corrugated iron lean-to
against large external rubblestone end stack. Integral rubblestone end stack
to left. Interior. 3 rooms to ground floor with timber framed cross wall
(large square panels with woven infill visible)between centre and right rooms.
Centre room sub-divided by timber framed spine wall. Chamfered cross-beam
ceiling and heavy joists to right ground-floor room; chamfered spine beam
and heavy joists to other ground-floor rooms. 3-light leaded mullion window
to back wall of right ground-floor room and C18 oak staircase to front of
centre room. Plank doors throughout. Collar and tie beam roof in 3 bays
with cambered tie beam to right gable end.
