side)
8/68 No. 6
-
GV II
House, formerly part of larger house. Early C19, with some probably
C15 or C16 fabric. Red brick, incorporating a timber framed core of cruck
construction. Slate roof. Lobby entry plan, probably formerly part of
hall house. Rendered plinth and dentil brick eaves cornice. Roughly
central brick ridge stack. 2-window front; 16-pane glazing bar sashes
with painted stone cills and lintels. Central boarded door with gabled
porch. Interior: collar and tie-beam roof truss with queen struts. No
framing was visible internally at the time of survey (November 1986) but
the right-hand end wall, between this house and No. 8, Dodington (q.v.),
incorporates a full cruck truss. Nos. 6 and 8 were probably both part of
the same house at one time. No. 6 was probably timber framed before the
early C19 rebuilding.
