GV II
Block of 3 cottages. c1818. Local stone coursed rubble, no 60 rendered; thatched roof to no 60, the others asbestos
cement slates to hipped roofs; brick chimney stacks. 2 storeys with attic. No 60 of 2 bays, with projecting
half-octagon plan hipped gable to bay 1; bar casement windows, the lower having keystoned segmental arches; part glazeded
entrance door on East side. Nos 61 and 62 severely modified in late C20, with single storey lean-to to no 62 in South
West corner: no 62 has half octagon plan projection on West side now raised to 3 storeys; variety of casement windows.
Interiors not seen. Newtown is a planned layout, of c1818, with originally some 80 thatched cottages: it is said to
have originated as a vote catching scheme. This group, although altered, helps to emphasise the variety in the layout
and thus the original concept. Primarily included for group value.
