Description

SD 91 NW LITTLEBOROUGH STUBLEY

1/59 Bents Farmhouse
and adjoining
- barn

- II
LaithE-house. Early C19 but probably earlier origin. Hammer-dressed
watershot stone with graduated stone slate roof. Double-depth plan with 2 bays,
2 storeys and barn attached to right. Central door and porch
have obtuse-angled lintels and heavily chamfered surrounds.
The porch has a coped gable and a date of 1727 cut
into a jamb stone. 5-light chamfered mullion and transom
window to left, 4-light mullion window to right and two 3-
light first floor windows. All have hoodmoulds. Central
blind arched light at first floor level. Quoins, coped
gables with kneelers and gable and ridge chimney stacks. The
rear has similar 3 and 4-light windows and doors (some
blocked) with square-cut surrounds. The barn, partly
obscured by a timber lean-to addition, has opposed
segmental-arched cart entries with small arched lintel
lights above, dressed pitching holes to either side and slit
ventilators. Rendered right gable. Queen-post roof trusses.
A parallel single-storey range adjoins at the rear and is
detailed similarly.
