Formerly the engine house and water tower of Burton.Constable Hall (qv),now
a dwelling. Early-mid C19 incorporating early C17 tower and with later
additions and alterations. Reddish-brown brick in Flemish bond with yellow
brick and ashlar dressings and reddish-brown narrow brick in stretcher bond
to tower, with concealed roofs. Square on plan with 3-bay front, C17 tower
to rear. Main front has central breakforward of 3 storeys, single bay, with
2-storey, single bays to either side. Yellow brick quoins and chamfered
plinth. Central entrance a brick basket-arched opening. Within a part-
glazed door. Above opening a heraldic shield inscribed 'SANS MAL DESIR'.
Casement cross windows throughout with wooden mullions and transoms except
to second floor of tower which has a 4-pane casement. All windows under
ashlar hoodmoulds with label stops and with ashlar sills. Yellow brick
eaves course. Projecting embattled parapets. Rear embattled octagonal
stack. Octagonal water tower incorporated to rear at right has inserted 3-
pane windows under hoodmoulds. Lowered in late C20. Embattled parapets.
