House, former farmhouse and probably mill house to Bembridge
windmill. c1700, altered C18, C19 and C20 restored 1988. Built
of Isle of Wight stone rubble with large quoins. Plain tiled
roof and brick chimney stacks. 3 bay lobby entry house, 1
storey with attics, rear outshut to 2 right-hand bays later
extended across left-hand bay. Added gabled porch between
left-hand bays has thin red brick quoins, 1-light window,
shaped stone kneelers and coping with boarded door in right
return; a 3-light window to left and 2 to right all C20 and
all in raised concrete surrounds. 2 C20 gabled dormers, shaped
kneelers to raised C20 brick verges. Rebuilt broad ridge stack
in line with porch. Rear has various C20 windows and door
which has quoins to surround. Left side has line of quoins
indicating that at this end the outshut is an addition.
2-light small pane window to upper floor in raised concrete
surround. Right side has 2 2-light windows to ground floor
3-light C20 window above and 1-light window to attic, all in
raised concrete surounds.
Interior has various old doors and beams, the former rear wall
(now inside the added outshut) has quoined doorway and small
window to upper floor right. Left-hand room (former parlour)
has moulded spine beam with lambs tongue stops, C18 bolection
moulded fireplace surround and corner cupboard which has round
arched top cupboard and keyed cornice; eaves cornice to
internal partition wall. Stair set behind stack, has narrow
plank-like balusters. 1st floor has panelled and board
partitioning and doors. In attic principal rafter roof trusses
with through purlins.
