Country house. Early C18; altered and enlarged mid C19; altered late C19/early
C20. Flemish bond red brick with rusticated stone quoins; entrance and garden
fronts stuccoed. Mid C19 service wing of yellow brick, whitewashed to front.
Shallow hipped slate roofs with deep eaves; brick ridge, external and internal
stacks. Originally U-plan, with wings to rear, extended to F-plan. 2 storeys.
7-window range, with 6-window service wing to right. Symmetrical entrance front
has C20 panelled door. Early C18 doorcase has bolection moulded architrave with
triple keyblocks. Outer architrave has narrow sunk panels and consoles. Open
segmental pediment with cartouche. Segmental arched sashes to third and fifth
bays. Sixth and seventh bays have very large mid/late C19 canted bay with
moulded cornice. 4-pane sashes and fixed-light windows throughout. All except
bay have keyblocks. Eaves form simple broken pediment above central bay. Service
wing has 12 and 16-pane sashes. Rendered lintels with keyblocks. 5-bay
symmetrical girded front to left return side. Central half-glazed 4-panelled
door and overlight. Steps. 4-pane sashes. All openings have keyblocks. Eaves
form simple broken pediment above central bay. C19/C20 imitation ashlar render
4-bay conservatory to left. French windows with fanlights. Flat roof with
parapet. To rear: 2-bay wings. Left wing has 12-pane sashes. Aprons above first
floor windows. Right wing colourwashed; ground floor hidden by conservatory.
4-pane sashes. Openings have gauged brick flat arches with keystones. Centre has
very large early C20 stone mullioned staircase window of 2 cross windows and
central 5-light window with 2 transoms. Small 2-light mullioned window below.
Hipped roofs. Irregular service wing attached to left. Interior: staircase hall
and former dining room have bolection moulded fireplace and floating cornice.
Staircase hall remodelled early C20. Ionic pilasters. 6-panelled doors with
eared architraves, possibly C18. Early C20 straight flight staircase and gallery
have twisted balusters. Cloakroom has a large number of Delft tiles.
