9/232 Gazebo at Biddesden House
II
Gazebo. c1933, by George Kennedy. Importantly situated on
hilltop. Flint with brick dressings, tiled roof. Rectangular
chamber with rectangular tower set on skew on southside, all
overlooking swimming pool to west. Entrance from fruit garden to
east. Stone oriel window with columns and parapet, and concealed
sashes, and sash window with segmental head. Tower has copper dome
with large knob.
Interior of tower has niches with mosaics of the three muses,
Erato, Clio and Thalia, and mosaic dome and floor, all by Boris
Anrep. Main chamber has painting by Roland Pym, a marble naked
Venus by E. Gazzeri from Rome and a verde antico young Apollo as
hunter.
