GV II*
Detached house with wall fronting road. Late C16 and late C17,
altered C20. Chequered flint and limestone with some brick, Welsh
slate roof to C17 range, C16 build partly close-studded timber-
frame, pantiled roof, brick stacks. L-plan. Two-storey, 5-
window south front. Glazed door with Tudor-arched head in right
hand bay of C17 build, three tall 2-light leaded mullioned
casements to left, lintel string course and three 2-light mullioned
casements to first floor, moulded wooden eaves cornice. C16 build
to right has C20 ground floor casement, C20 casement and semi-
circular headed leaded casement to first floor. Right return has
C20 casement. Left return has blocked mullioned window to first
floor. Rear of C-16 range has C20 ground floor casements, close-
studded first floor and attic with leaded casements. To right of
C17 range is C20 door with Ionic pilasters, reset from south front,
single-storey addition to right, altered C20, ground and first
floor have two cross windows with recessed chamfered mouldings.
Interior: kitchen in C16 wing has deeply chamfered beam. C17
range has features of end of century; dining room with full raised
panelling, stone bolection-moulded fireplace, moulded ceiling
cornice. Drawing room also has bolection-moulded fireplace
reputedly moved from first floor. Bedroom over dining room has
raised panelling and similar fireplace, south west bedroom has
similar fireplace with wooden dentilled overmantel. Jowled main
post from timber-frame retained at top of stairs. Roof of C16
build is 2-bay with collar and tie-beam truss, chamfered purlins,
this probably represents the remains of a larger wing.
Limestone and flint chequered boundary wall integral to late C17
build and running for about 25 metres to south, stepped double
roll-moulded saddleback coping, chamfered rusticated stone gate
piers with ball finials, a lozenge-shaped inscription tablet is set
in wall between corner of house and gate piers.
