House, formerly with a shop. C16. Timber-framed and roughcast;
jettied along the street frontage; plaintiled roof.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attic. 2 windows to the upper storey,
both tripartite sashes with a single vertical glazing bar to
the middle light in flush cased frames. The ground storey has
the remains of a double early C19 shop front with a
large-paned sash window replacing the door. Another similar
large-paned sash window to the ground storey.
A large gabled and plaintiled dormer has a small plain 2-light
casement window. A 6-panel entrance door has the top 2 panels
glazed. The ends of the jetty are covered with a plain fascia
board. 2 C17 rear wings, on the south with 2 storeys and
attic, the other 2-storey.
INTERIOR: cellar not readily accessible. Front range in 2
distinct sections. To the left of the entry a single early C16
bay has a main ceiling beam on the ground storey with double
ogee moulding and run-off stops. The same moulding across the
2 transverse beams. A plain cambered timber lintel to the end
stack on the south, linking with the adjoining house.
On the 1st storey the walls have good studding and a cambered
and chamfered tie-beam with cut-off stops, formerly with
arched braces and with pegs for the base of a crown-post,
removed when the roof space above was made into a room.
Shutter slides on the upper storey along the front and back
walls.
The entry and the part to the left of it are C17, with the
ceiling at a higher level: the main beam, partly boxed in, has
curved stops with groove. An early C19 corner fireplace.
