House and shop, now entirely shop premises. Early to mid C19.
White brick, painted, with a slate roof and plain eaves
soffit, on a corner site.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 3 window range to Churchgate Street and 1
window to Guildhall Street, all 12-pane sashes in plain
reveals. 2 shop windows to Churchgate Street in early C19
style with pilasters and cornices and a door with 6 sunk
panels and a fanlight with radiating glazing-bars in a
semicircular brick surround.
A similar shop window to the Guildhall Street front. The
splayed corner has a blank window above and a wide entrance
doorway, fanlight with radiating glazing bars and a segmental
brick surround. The building now includes the former No.16.
This has a mid-C19 brick front with a plain parapet to a
possibly C17 timber-framed core; plaintiled roof and the
remains of an end chimney-stack on the north. 2 storeys.
2 windows to the upper storey: sashes with a single vertical
glazing-bar in plain reveals. A double shopfront, formerly
with a central entrance now has the door replaced by a
narrower window. A plain fascia has ornate blind boxes
remaining.
INTERIOR: no features prior to the early C19 in No.15. Former
No.16 interior mainly gutted; roof renewed. The main beam on
the ground storey is a C20 insertion. The gable wall on the
south is the end wall of No.17 (qv), with substantial studding
exposed.
Part of a significant group in Guildhall Street and included
for group value.
