House. C16 core; mid C19 alterations and extensions.
Timber-framed and rendered; concrete plaintiles.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and cellar. 2 window range: 6-pane sashes
with vertical glazing-bars only in flush cased frames. On the
ground storey, one tripartite sash with vertical glazing-bars
on the left and a pair of plank garage doors on the right.
The central entrance door has 6 raised fielded panels and a
plain wood surround. A heavy timber band above the ground
storey suggests that there may be an underbuilt jetty. In the
end wall on the right studding, a main post and a middle rail
were uncovered and photographed during rebuilding of No.14 in
1965; the wall was then rebuilt in brick. The C19 rear
extension has a roof-slope running into the main roof and no
upper rooms.
INTERIOR: cellar, not readily accessible, is said to be brick
vaulted. The front ground-storey room has a boxed-in beam and
a later partition wall dividing off the garage area. An
internal chimney-stack, shared with No.12 (qv), has a rebuilt
fireplace with the timber lintel covered. On the upper storey,
the front wall has been raised, but the rear wall is still the
original height with a steep pitch to the slope of the roof.
The rear wallplate and the tie-beam in the partition wall with
No.12 are both visible.
