House. 1937 to the designs of Walter Gropius and Maxwell Fry. Important house of the
International Modern style and the only known weather-boarded house in England by
Gropius. Weather-boarded with plain bracketed eaves to the slightly sloping roofs.
Two-storey main block to south with terrace. One-storey dining room extension to left
of south front, with double French casements in south and loggia to right set at angle
with stair mounting up to right. Low one-storey wing to north-west comprising guest
suite with slightly taller integral garage at end. North-east wing of one-storey
containing outbuildings. Windows on both floors of south front in long rows, and in 3
groups on guest wing, all metal-framed casements. Entrance in west end of south block
with deep, sloping weather-hood on slender metal supports. Interior. In original
condition with door-furniture and window casements by Zeiss of Germany. Dining room.
Beige marble central table on 2 wooden supports and similar surfaces to 2 sideboards.
Three copper light fittings on walls. Sun Room. Beige marble top to bookshelves and
integral fireplace. Original stair in place.
