Water grist mill. c1860s. Coursed stone rubble with polychrome red and blue brick dressings. Clay plain tile roof with half-hipped ends. PLAN: rectangular. Mill at SW end of long range. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and loft. Symmetrical 2-window SE front; 2-light casements with cambered red and blue brick arches; steps to central doorway with cambered arch, plank double doors and gabled canopy; chequered blue and red brick bands at first and second floor levels; wheel-pit on right [NE] and single-storey range beyond. INTERIOR: in the wheel-pit on the NE side of the mill there is a quarter breast-shot wheel with an iron axle, but wooden spokes and paddles; there is a cast-iron pit-wheel and 3 iron in-line gear-wheels with bevel gearing. The set of 3 stones is complete with wooden tuns. The other machinery includes a wooden sack-hoist, a bolting machine and cleaner. The grain bins, wooden winder stairs and roof structure are also intact. A water-powered printing press has recently been installed in the store adjoining NE. Aymestrey Mill is situated on the River Lugg and was probably built by the Yatton estate.
