From circa 1600. Front altered in C19. Three gabled front of three storeys, ten windows, stuccoed, side wing extensions of C19.
Crenellated parapets. Small ball finials and coping to gables. Windows Gothicised by the addition of moulded labels, plain modern two-light wood mullion casements with leaded panes. A two storey extension on east side has splayed bays and crenellated parapet. Two plain shallow doorcases with segmental arches and plain cornices, that in centre having a stone ball, modern doors. Including modern rusticated gate piers and modern railings and gates with overthrow.
Interior: extensive panelling and fireplaces including good ground floor panelled room of early C17. Fine principal staircase of C18 with turned and fluted balusters, fluted column newels, moulded handrail, panelled dado with fluted pilasters, said to have been built for William Wright who purchased the house in 1730.
Secondary dog leg staircase of C17 with heavy turned balusters, and newels with ball finials, moulded string. A third staircase of early C19 with decorative iron balusters. A.M.
Skeffington House, the Iron Gates, Chantry House and Newarke Wall together with all listed buildings in Castle Street, Castle Yard and Castle View form a group.
