1851 and 1855. Ground floor built as Market Place, upper storey added
by F. W. Ordish for Corn Exchange. Large two-storey classical building
in stuccoed brick. Slate hipped roof with heavy modillion eaves cornice.
Piano mobile design. Ground floor has large heavily rusticated stone
archway under impressive outer two-flight staircase, with balusters, rising
to central door in second storey with segmental pediment; and cartouche
over. Six windows with modern fenestration. All windows in moulded archi-
traves. Windows on ground floor are very large, with alternate triangular
and segmental pediments and sills on console brackets. Rusticated quoins
and moulded band at upper window sills. Central clock turret over doorway.
Three bay side elevation with large pedimental doorways. Including basement
area railings with spear-head shafts.
