MEASHAM,

Meer Bridge

II

Skew bridge of c1869-73. Carried road over railway line and includes long
slope with brick retaining walls to one side. Red brick English bond,
stone coped with stone springing to single segmental brick arch. Side
buttresses. 5 brick string course with moulded upper brick on outside
of walls bordering road just above road level. Road slope begins parallel
to line and crosses diagonally to end at 90° to line on other side.
No trace of further bridge which followed immediately to carry road over
former canal: replaced by earth bank. Built for L. & N.W. & M.R. Ashby
and Nuneaton Joint Railway.
