Description

COLD NEWTON

SK 70 NW SKEG HILL ROAD (East Side)

1/43 Manor House and boundary wall
(Manor House previously listed)
29 12 66 II

House. Late C16 or early C17. Coursed ironstone rubble with Welsh slate
roof to front, Swithland slate to rear. Two storeyed with attic. Basically
a T-plan house, with doorway in centre of main range in a coped gabled porch
dated 1882. Flanking windows probably also of that date; tall 3-light mullions
stone to left, timber to right. Upper windows are 3 and 2-light stone mullions,
plain chamfered, and probably C17. Projecting coped gabled wing to right
has 4-light stone mullioned window to ground floor, and a 4-light mullioned
and transomed window above. 2-lights to attic. Other2 and 3-light stone
mullioned windows in side elevation, and some single windows in chamfered
stone surrounds. Massive stone stack on wing. Boundary wall adjoins to east.
Coursed rubble with cobble and tile coping, and small gateway with steps to
garden.
