House, formerly cottages. Circa C16, remodelled in circa early
C17 and extended circa late C17 or C18. Timber framed, mostly
rendered. Thatched roof. Brick axial and gable end stacks.
PLAN: 3-room plan; the centre and right hand (S) rooms were the
original 2-room plan house, the right unheated, the centre room
open to the roof and heated from an open hearth fire. in circa
early C17 a floor and axial stack were inserted and later in C17
the left hand (N) room was added or possibly rebuilding of
putative third room.
EXTERIOR: Single storey and attic. 4-window range. Door to left
of centre with 3-light casement to either side, that to right
under cambered head. 3-light leaded casement further to right
also under cambered lintel and 2-light casement to far right.
Above are three 3-light eyebrow dormers, that to left leaded and
probably C18. C20 window on left end door and 2-light window on
right end. To rear are two 2-light windows, a 3-light window,
and 4 bays of large-panel timber framing. Small C20 lean-to
garage at rear.
INTERIOR: Centre room has chamfered axial beams with hallow step
stops and large fireplace with unchamfered timber lintel.
Right (S) room has chamfered axial beam with mutilated steps.
Jowled storey posts; tie-beams with curved braces. Large
principal rafters, crossed at apex, diagonal ridgepiece,through
purlins set on backs of principals and mortice and tenoned
collar; cannon rafters missing. The roof timbers are smoke-
blackened over centre rear. Tie beams truss over north
extension, crossed at apex.
