House, formerly 2 cottages. Late C16/C17. Probably cruck-framed squared
stone with quoins and stone dressings incorporating pieces of carving
perhaps of ecclesiastical origin. Thatch and Welsh slate roof with 2
brick ridge and right end stacks. Stone coped gables to wing. Facade
faces rear. 2 ranges, that to right with thatch roof and gable cross
wing to left with Welsh slate roof. Right range of 1½ storeys of 3
casements: from left, 3-light, doorway with moulded stone frame and
4-centred arch, and 2 2-lights. On 1st floor are 3-light eyebrow dormer,
small 2-light over door, 2-light eyebrow dormer and similar centre-opening
3-light. Left range of 2½ storeys of a stone mullion window with hood
mould: 3-light, 2-light over, and blocked attic 2-light. A head stop
either side 1st floor hood mould. On left end a 3-light casement both
floors each in moulded stone frame with hood mould, the first floor
similarly with head stops. On the rear gable, that facing down Banbury
Lane, a 3-light window both floors. On ground floor a casement under re-
used moulded stone lintel with 4-centred arch and hould mould. On 1st
floor a stone mullion window with hood mould. Above this, in gable, a
blank panel with moulded frame and hood mould, gabled niche or blocked
l-light over, and large octagonal finial. Scratch dial used a quoin on
right. Said to be partly cruck framed. V.C.H.,Vol.V.
