2. House said to be of 1630, front elevation of early c18. Ashlar with moulded plinth
with 2 inset foot scrapers, and band between storeys. Stone slate
roof . Well-moulded eaves cornice on heavy dentils. 3 cambered dormers,
casements with glazing bars. 5 windows in moulded stone surrounds with
moulded cills. small shield over top central window on stone band. Central
door of 6 fielded panels and rectangular glazed fanlight approached by a
double flight of 6 moulded stone steps with simple wrought iron railing.
Handsome rusticated stone doorcase with heavy triple keystone, bolection
frieze, moulded pediment.
A very fine facade, and one of the most notable in the town.
Nos 1 to 8 (consec) together with Garage Premises to No 9A,9A,9,10, Sunday
School and No 12 to 17 (consec), Barn Hill and Nos 1 and 2 Red Lion Square form
a group.
