Former church of St Wilfrid, now closed. c.1700, with some C19
alteration, re-using C12 and C14 material. Coursed squared
limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and rusticated quoins.
Slate roof. Nave, west tower and vestry. 2-stage west tower
with quatrefoil parapet frieze and angle urns. Re-used C14 west
door having triple shafted reveals, foliate capitals, double
chamfered arch. Above a panel bearing C18 royal arms and in the
top stage to all four sides are keyed oculi with wooden Chinese
Chippendale tracery. The side walls have four two-light windows,
cusped heads to the lights and trefoil spandrels. On the north
side a gabled vestry with single lancet to north. In the east
end a re-used C14 reticulated 3-light window with hood and human
head stops. Interior. Has at the west end four C12 round pillars
supporting the tower with waterleaf and chamfered capitals now
supporting double chamfered pointed arches. In the sanctuary a
doorway in the north wall leads to the vestry. All fittings are
C19 with crocketed pinnacles and shafts. C19 square font with
contemporary wooden cover and shafted base.
