Office buildings. c.1880. Granite. 4 storeys with
basement and 9 bays. Ground floor has incised sill band and
5 entrances. Tripartite windows with colonnettes, paired
windows next to entrances. 1st and 2nd floors have
tripartite windows between floors, entablature over. 3rd
floor has 4-light windows and flat band with corbels over.
Gables to 2nd and 8th bay (that to centre bay missing) with
stepped 3-light windows and slits above. The simplified
historical treatment is advanced and has parallels in the
work of Lethaby. (BoE).
