Description

TF 07 NW NETTLEHAM THE GREEN
(west side)

5/43 Beck House
30.11.66
G.V. II

House. C16 with minor C19 and C20 alterations. Coursed
limestone rubble with steeply pitched pantile roof and one raised
brick coped gable and hipped end to right. One gable and one
ridge stack. Lobby entry, 3 unit plan. Single storey with
attics, 4 bay irregular front. Off centre 6 panelled door, the
top panels glazed, with C20 timber gabled hood over. To left
are 2 three light C20 casements and to right a smaller similar
window. To the roof are 3 two light casement dormers with lead
cheeks and sloping roofs. There is evidence in the facade of
earlier fenestration and the roof at the right hand end has been
raised slightly when the thatch was removed. Although the ground
floor has been slightly altered the original 3 unit plan can be
discerned. In the hall is a chamfered beam with deep shield
shaped stops and an inglenook fireplace with shallower splayed
beam and stone sides with stepped stops. Although the house has
been re-roofed the C17 clasped purlin roof has been preserved
beneath the new one at the left hand end.
