Early C19 mansion. Two storey stucco with band at eaves and between storeys. Three
window centre (first floor left blocked) with one window full height projecting
square bays with very flat pediments at either end, and one storey wing (top lit) to
right. Ground floor windows of bays and wing are in round headed recesses with lion
heads above windows. There are also lion heads above first floor side windows of
central block. Semi-circular porch with 2 Ionic columns now glassed in and used as
large window. House now divided into flats and ground floor side windows of central
block converted into 2 doors. Was home of Sir Stamford Raffles, Founder of Singapore,
Governor of Java and Founder and First President of the Zoological Society, just
before his death in 1826. Grade II partly on historical grounds.
