Circa 1875-77. Important platform canopies, ironwork, etc especially on central
platform. Said to incorporate part of the original Brunel station of circa 1840
but this seems unlikely unless the cast iron columns supporting the upside are
re-used from it. The station is important as the least altered example remaining
of the general station rebuilding in the 1870's caused by the quadrupling of the
tracks. The up side is of grey brick, the island platform of iron and wood, both
almost complete.
