The building dated 1887, of red brick with tiled roofs is of special interest
only for the sculptural group over the main entrance. This is of artificial
stone, early C19 comprising a woman flanked by a boy and a girl on a plinth
decorated with swags. Stood originally in the niche over the entrance to
the parochial school rebuilt in either 1801 or 1806 in the Kingsland Road,
Shoreditch. Moved to its present site in 1887. The group is inscribed 'Van
Spangen and Powell', 'Mile End'. This was a terracotta manufactory set up
in competition with Coade and Sealy.
