Recumbent effigy in gowns of a member of the Legion d'Honneur on a rolled mat, upon a stepped base, the sides of which sport incised versions of his best known paintings; reliefs of palettes, brushes and diplomas on the projecting plinths of the six columns of Portland stone which carry the canopy, the frieze of which is decorated with wreaths and garlands. History: Mulready was one of the most popular early Victorian painters, specialising in 'genre' scenes. This monument was exhibited at the 1867 Paris Exposition Universelle, where it won a prize.
