Town hall. 1928-31. Designed by A J Hope of Messrs Bradshaw, Gass and Hope.
Portland stone. Slate mansard roof. Stripped classical style. 3 storeys,
including attic storey, plus dormers. 11 bays, the outer bays set forward slightly
and flanked by giant Doric pilasters. Central projecting Doric porch with openwork
parapet and cartouche. Square headed windows; metal glazing bars. Cornice above
first floor; subsidiary cornice to attic. Oval dormers to mansard. The rear
elevation and the interior of the Town Hall and the link block with the Civic Hall
are not of special architectural or historic interest.
