1828. Bollards of cast iron with square base shading to octagonal top and low,
pyramidal cap. Horizontally reeded all over. On each side monogram, "R.B.T" and
crown over. The initials stand for the Royal Brunswick Theatre which was built in 1828
and adorned the site for only three days of working life before collapsing, with
considerable loss of life, during a rehearsal. The bollards are the only visible
remains of the theatre and are listed for historical association in addition to their
intrinsic value.
