Terraced town houses. 1760s Portland Estate development with c1840-50 refacing.
Stock brick with channelled stucco ground floors (alternating vermiculated
bands at Nos 18 and 19) and stucco dressings; slate roofs. 4 storeys (No 20
with dormered mansard) on basements. 3-window wide astylar fronts. Semicircular
arched doorways to Nos 19 and 20 with vermiculated dressings and voussoirs to
No 19; No 18 has square headed doorway and Doric columned and balustraded
stucco porch; panelled doors, No 19 with side lights and moulded doorhead-under
patterned fanlight, and side light and rectangular fanlight to No 18. Recessed
sashes, those on upper floors in architraves, eared on 2nd and 3rd floors, the
1st floor windows with pulvinated friezes and cornices on consoles with the
centre windows pedimented. Plat band over ground floor and crowning cornice
with blocking course. Nos 18 and 19 have continuous stucco balcony on bold
pendant ornamented brackets with low balustrading, carried out over porch of No
18. No 20 has iron balustraded balcony on brackets. No 18 has plumbed spike
finialed area railings. Nos 19 and 20 have wrought iron area railings with
flambé urn finials. Interiors retain stone staircases with scrolled wrought
iron balustrades, some original plasterwork and chimneypieces; etc.
