Said to have been built in 1742. Bought in 1783 by Samuel Oldknow, the "muslin
king". In 1802 left to William Radcliffe of Mellor, the inventor of the dressing
frame. Attacked by Luddites 1812. 3 storeys in brick with dentil eaves cornice.
3 windows, now with 6-light mullion and transom treatment, gauged brick arches.
Good doorcase with Greek Ionic half-columns and open pediment. Adam ornament
to impost blocks. Radiating fanlight and door of 6 panels. 5 steps. Rear
wing of 3 storeys with plain pilastered doorway. Modillion eaves cornice.
Nos 23 and 27 form a visual group.
