II*
House. Late C16-early C17 and c.1910. Limestone rubble. Stone
slate roof. 2 storeys and attic, and part cellar. E-plan with
central 2 storey porch, 1 bay either side and projecting wings,
gabled to rear. Right wing extended by C17 2 storey service block.
Large c1910 extension of left wing to rear. Entrance under round
arch with incised abaci and key. Continuous string rises over
central panel with arms of Ashley Cooper (Lords Bolingbroke).
Stone-mullioned and transomed windows, 2-light over porch, 4-light
in flanking bays, and 3-light to wings. Roofs hipped to front and
2 small hipped dormers. Stacks central to wings.
Interior: Central stone paved hall, opened up to main parlour to
right with large moulded stone fireplace. Panelled partition to
left of hall with central entrance to drawing room also with
moulded stone fireplace and oak carved overmantle. Fine dog-leg
stair in right wing, with turned balusters and heavy moulded rail.
Stone fireplaces on first floor. Butt purlin and tenoned collar
roof. Various C17 three-plank doors.
