Beauport Home Farm Close
Nos 9-23 (odd), Former Beauport Home Farm with attached outbuildings
(Formerly listed as Beauport Home Farm, Nos 2, 3 and 4 [with attached outbuildings]), BATTLE ROAD)
II
Circa 1870. Date stone on rear elevation of Nos.17 and 19 (former Nos. 3 and 4) obscured by vegetation (when surveyed). Built as a planned layout to incorporate three farm labourer's cottages, barn, stabling and other outbuildings to the home farm of the now demolished Beauport House.
Built of yellow sandstone ashlar. The central part, Nos. 17 and 19, is a pair of cottages of two storeys with slate roof. Four casements with stone mullions and door cases with reeded piers. The garden elevation has two bays through both floors and a date stone. One storey sandstone and slated outbuildings connect to the gabled wings, that to the north east being a barn and that to the south east another cottage (former No. 2). Both have circular openings in the gable end but former No. 2 has two casements and a circular domed stair turret on the side elevation.
Included as an interesting Victorian planned arrangement of farm buildings.
