This was the gate house to the medieval Manor of Ratton. The Manor House
was demolished some time ago. All the farm buildings have been converted
into modern houses and are of no interest. The Gate House alone of any
building before the C19 survives and is now surrounded by new housing.
It is a C15 timber framed 2 storey building with a plastered front now
white-washed. Modern roof. The 1st floor overhangs. Large projecting
stone chimney breast with brick top above the roof level. 1 window on
the ground floor projects slightly on brackets. The other windows are
all modern casements. Contemporary double wooden door with modern lintel
and original curved brackets beneath this making the arch to the door.
Original iron knocker on the door, also small aperture or spy hole.
