15.6.84 Beard's Brewery
GV II
Brewery, now store. Later C18, altered in C19. Some rubble stone and some
flint with brick dressings, but mostly brick, nearly all now painted.
Plain tiled half-hipped roof. Right half: Three gabled dormers, almost
regularly spaced across roof. 2 storeys with cellar and attic. Irregular
fenestration with two windows on first floor to right and three windows on
ground floor to left. Tall doorway to left reaching to eaves with boarded door
and transom-light. Left half: Painted brick with red brick to cross-wing
above eaves level of main range to right. Plain tiled roofs with taller
cross-gabled block to right and a weather-boarded louvred housing on ridge.
Two small stacks to left. 2 storeys with garret under gable to right, with
large window in garret above. Irregular fenestration of 2 windows to left
on first floor and one on ground floor. One doorway to left and one to right
of centre. Interior: Very large vaulted cellar to north. South part
contains much brewery machinery of indeterminate date, including fermentation
vats, malting vat and direct line-shafting for steam engine (at time of re-
survey removed).
