- II
Former farmhouse. C16 and later. Part 2 storeys and attics, part 1½ storeys:
a main lobby-entrance range with 2 wings of different dates at the rear.
Timber-framed; rendered on sides and rear; main front faced in late C19 red
brick, laid in English bond, which is tied into the frame by iron rods, the
ends finished with projecting knobs. Plaintiled roofs. An internal chimney-
stack with a large plain rebuilt red brick shaft. On the upper floor, one 2-
light and 3 3-light casement windows with a single horizontal bar to lights;
on the ground floor, 3 3-light mullion-and-transome type casements, all in
deep reveals. Recessed entrance door with 6 sunk panels; panelled linings to
surround. The 2-bay ground-floor room to the right of the stack has very
heavy timbers: wide chamfer and curved stops to main beam, plain unchamfered
joists set on edge, an open fireplace with a plain timber lintel. The
wallplate of this range has been doubled, and the roof renewed. A small wing
at the rear has a complete 4-light diamond-mullioned window in the gable end
and reversed braces on the upper floor. A longer, 1½ storey service wing,
with clay pantiles and an internal chimney-stack, has typical early C18
framing: bisected studs, primary braces, narrow joists set on edge; roof with
stepped butt purlins.
