House. Mid C16, part rebuilt in C17, raised and altered in C19. Timber
frame, plastered. Shallow pitch to slate roof. 3 cell cross passage plan. 2
storeys. Entrance into screens passage with a 4 panelled C19 door, doorcase
with bracketed hood, flanking 3-light glazing bar casements, to left a single
light and an entrance. First floor 2-light casements with C19 moulded
triangular heads. Ridge stack at upper end of hall. Left gable end truncated
external stack, early red brick with multiple offsets, pantiled oven outshut.
To rear screens passage door and scattered casements. Interior: hall has
close studding and a broach stopped cross axial binding beam, C17 screen with
fielded panels, upper room broach stopped cross axial binding beam, lower room
largely rebuilt. First floor: reverse curved braces in walling, mortices for
diamond mullioned windows. Over 2 hall bays original queen post roof remains
with arched braces from jowled queen posts to arcade plates/purlins and to
collars, above collars renewed in C19. Partly moated site.
