Pyramidal stone erected in 1818 (to replace or in addition to an
earlier stone probably dating from early C17) enclosed in iron railings
about 30 yds from main road in cultivated fields (common was enclosed
1729) and has verses written by Dr Nathan Drake painted on it. Dr Taylor born
early C16 was chaplain to Archbishop Cranmer and appointed by him to
rectory of Hadleigh. He was a protestant and was a victim of Marian
persecution. Burnt at the stake on Aldham Common 1555. NMR photo.
