1/8 The Round House
7.9.82 II
House, former toll-house. Late C18, early C19, and late C20. Original walls of brickwork in Monk bond, brick dentil eaves, rubbed flat arches (with keys to the ground floor), stone quoins to the angles of the ground floor, plinth above a stone base. Tiled roof; over the octagon virtually a cone, other roofing ends in hips and gables. Octagonal building, with a larger unit attached to its west side, raised and further extended in the late C20. The original building seems to have been single-storeyed, but a 1st floor was added. 3 openings have been filled and there is 1 ground floor and 1 1st floor casement. The south east face has a C20 gabled brick porch. The remainder of the building is late C20, with casements and another porch; during renovation a plaque was inserted, with the inscription SS1767, restored WGB 1982.
