Description

SU 11 NE BREAMORE CHARFORD

6/21 Nos 1 and 2,
23.8.79 Dairy Cottages
(Formerly listed as Nos 1
GV and 2 Dairy Cottages at
South Charford Farm)
II*
Remains of South Charford Manor, now two cottages. Part of the building
is a square medieval tower, with an eastern timber-framed arm of the C17
with some C18 cladding, and a northern arm mainly C18. Brick walls of
English bond, of different periods and with altered features, some cambered
arches, and some massive stone quoins: the north elavation of the eastern
arm has exposed bricknogged framing. Half-hipped tile roof, two gables
above half-dormers on the south elevation. Two storeys, three windows to
the west (front) and south elevations. Casements. One plain doorway, a
second access in a C20 porch built into the interior angle of the L-shape.
The oldest part has different floor levels (two above a semi-basement),
with a doorway to each floor having a stone frame with chamfered jambs.
The remains of a moat exist, to the west.
