SWANMORE PARK LANE
SU 51 NE
4/25 Park Cottage (Cruckwell
House)
GV II

House. Medieval two-bay cruck timber frame, altered C16 at the east end, when
a timber-framed crosswing of two bays was added, and a fireplace inserted in the
gap, to form a lobby entrance arrangement, with C20 rear wing. Walls of brickwork
in Flemish bond, with some blue header vertical flush panels, cambered openings:
east wall with exposed bricknogged frame above flintwork with brick dressings,
painted brickwork at the rear in Flemish Garden Wall bond, C20 brickwork and some
flintwork in the exposed frame of the west wall. Tile roof, hipped above the main
part with catslide at rear, half-hipped to the extensions. L-shaped block of
several phases; south front elevation of two storeys three windows, with single-
storeyed west side of one window. Casements. Doorway with pediment hood on
brackets, and 6-panelled door. Inside, the crucks remain in the original west
wall, other framing being exposed elsewhere, indicating the phases of construction.
One fireplace has a Tudor chamfered arch of brickwork.
