SU 42 SE COMPTON SHEPHERDS LANE

8/1 New Barn Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse. C17, early C18 and C19. Brick, old plain tile roof with
medieval ridge tiles. Originally late C17/early C18 T-shaped house of
3 bays with wing to rear and C17 brickwork survives in gable end of wing
enlarged C19 when additions each side of wing made house double pile and
single storey wing added to left at front. Front 2 storey 3 bay with
high plinth of flint and brick cut by windows and central C19 porch with
pilasters on corners and full entablature and archway with top-glazed door
behind. Each side large C19 3-light segmental head casement. On 1st
floor 2 3-light casements and single casement over door. Coved timber
eaves and external end stacks. To left 2-bay single storey range with
3-light segmental head casements. Roof half-hipped.
