(Abuts No 71.) Dated 1712. An unusual "Gothick" composition. Roughcast. 2
storeys. 2 stone mullioned 3-light windows with trefoiled heads, an early C19
doorcase and window to lower storey. Small covered arched gateway on right
hand. Above the arch is a grotesque human head with toad issuing from mouth,
popularly reputed to be satirical portrait of Judge Jeffreys. On right hand
is a gabled bay over higher level, the gable surmounted by weather-vane and
cock, with obelisk finials at the sides. Large original Gothic window of Decorated
tracery, removed from the demolished church of St Nicholas. Early C19 moulded
wood doorcase, with, above, a stone head of a medieval knight (probably from
St Nicholas'). A moulded wood panel affixed to wall is painted and inscribed
"Licensed in l0th year of Queen Anne". Slate roof. 2 dormers with 2-light
pointed casements.

All the listed buildings from Nos 53 to 81 (odd) form a group.
