12/3 The Manor House
and Aldington Court

GV II

Two houses. Probably C17, remodelled early C19. Ashlar and stucco on
stone, with hipped slate roofs. Aldington Court attached to north side of
the Manor House. The Manor House: in a Greco-Cubic style. U-plan, with
stacks on side walls. West front: two storeys, 2 + 1 + 2 windows, wings
have plain pilasters; 16-pane sash to centre, others are glazing bar sashes.
The entrance has a portico filling the recess, with Doric columns, parapet
and ball finial; overlight over a four-panel door flanked by two fixed case-
ments. Aldington Court: lobby-entrance against central stack. Two storeys,
boarded eaves; three windows: glazing bar sashes. To left on ground floor,
a 4-light casement in moulded wooden frame, a 16-pane sash to the right; porch
has a gabled treated as an open pediment, with plain pilasters below; plain
fanlight over C20 panelled door. Stonework exposed on left-hand (north) return
front. Aldington Court seems to have become the service wing of the Manor House
after the latter was built.
