Gates and gate-piers. Circa 1897-8, for the Duc d'Orleans. The gates were reputedly made by
J. Starke Gardner. Wrought-iron and ashlar. Two octagonal stone piers capped by
wrought-iron lamp standards with crown finials. Central pair of carriage gates hung on
wrought-iron piers, flanked by two pedestrian gates. Overthrow has three fleur-de-lis on a
shield borne by two angels, with the inscription "Mountjoyce Denis". The gates were formerly
thought to be C18 and to have come from Versailles, via Orleans House, Twickenham.
