Farmhouse. C14, remodelled early C17, with some mid-C19 alterations.
Timber-frame with painted brick and rendered infill under a slate and
corrugated iron roof. U-plan, hall range aligned east/west with subsidiary
wings projecting to south. External gable-end stack to south of west cross-
wing of painted rubble with brick shaft, central stack in hall range with
brick shaft and lobby entrance on south side. South front: left-hand wing
blind, that to right has a ground floor entrance and a lean-to roof. The
left-hand return wall has a C19 external staircase. Hall range of two
storeys with two windows, a 2-light casement to left and a window with
boarded shutter to right. Ground floor has a 2-light casement to left and
a single-light casement to right. The entrance has a stable door under a
flat metal canopy. At west end of the north wall of hall on the first floor
there is a blocked window of four trefoiled lights, the heads cut into a
rail. Framing: the window is flanked by two curved angle braces. Walls
to south have C17 framing of two square panels high to the first floor.
Interior: the inserted C17 floor of the hall range has chamfered and stopped
exposed beams. The roof was not inspected, but is reported to retain some
C14 cusping. The ground floor of the east cross-wing retains a C18 cider
mill and press. (RCHM, 3, p 83, no 3).
