Farmhouse. Circa 1400, largely rebuilt mid- to late C18 with further late
C19 alterations. Part coursed dressed rubble with ashlar dressings and
slate roof with gable-end parapets and end stacks; part timber-framed on
rubble base with brick and boarded infill and corrugated metal roof. Main
range of two storeys and three bays. Windows have rusticated wedge lintels
and are all 3-light casements; two large ground floor windows and three small
first floor windows. Central main entrance has a flat ashlar canopy on shaped
brackets and a ledged and battened door. Timber-framed east wing: three of
the original four bays are recorded to have survived. Two storeys. Framing:
three rows of close-set studding. Collar and tie-beam truss with close-set
struts beneath collar and V-strut above collar at east gable end. Large window
frame on ground floor and 4-light first floor window at east gable end.
Interior: original trusses are recorded to survive and are of collar type with
swept arch braces forming two-centred arches. (RCHM, III, p 24, item 5; BoE, p 86).
