House. C17 or possibly earlier origins. Main block c.1740 with C20
additions. Red brick. Hipped tiled roof. Some timber framing to rear.
Main block is 5 x 4 bays. 3 storeys. Original entrance front is now left
return facing SW. Central entrance with fanlight, glazed door. Pilasters
to bracketed hood. Glazing bar sashes with gauged brick flat arched
heads, that to first floor centre with a moulded key block. Second floor
2 light leaded pane casements. Plinth. Moulded plat bands. Modillioned
eaves cornice. Right return or present entrance front: steps up to C20
entrance to right of centre, fanlight, side lights, open pediment.
Ground floor left 2 dummy sashes with cambered heads, otherwise as
front. Left return as front, 1 blocked window and a stack. Rear
elevation has second floor casements. Multiple wings attached to lower
storeys. To rear right and projecting on right return is an C18 or
possibly earlier 2 storey wing with a double hipped roof. 2, 3 and 4
light casements with leaded panes, some cambered heads. An extruded
stack with offsets. Beyond this to rear is a 1 storey and attic C17
range with exposed framing to rear. C20 casements. Continuing to rear
is a weatherboarded range with gables over an open carriageway bay. At
right angles and projecting into yard is a 2 storey 4 bay range with an
open carriageway bay. Brick ground floor, weatherboarded first floor
with loft doors. Catslide roof over lean-to and a stock brick
projection to rear. To rear left of main block are C20 additions. 3
bays, 2 storeys nearest house. 1 storey with a glazed tetrastyle Doric
loggia further left. Interior not inspected. (Pevsner 1977).
